Surender Sharma was born on July 29, 1945, in Nangal Choudhary, Mahendragarh district, Haryana. He is a celebrated Indian poet, writer, and humorist known for his unique style of satire and humor. He has done his Master's in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.

Sharma started off by writing poetry in Hindi in his college time in 1966, taking stage performances in local functions. In the early 1970s, he took up professional performances. Gradually, he emerged as the crème de la crème among Kavi Sammelans poets. His poetry is carried with a punch line, mostly with Haryanvi and Marwari dialect, and has over the years tagged him as the 'Chaar Laina wala poet' or the poet of four lines.

Sharma is quite satirical of marital life and the relationship of husband and wife in his performances. His dialogue line, "chaar lainaa suna ryo hoon" ("I am going to recite four lines"), and his anecdotes about his wife strike an audience chord due to their familiarity and humor. Such a style does not only provide entertainment but also comments on society and relationships.

For his contribution in literature and wit, the government of India included him in its list of Padma Shree awardees in 2013. He served in other significant areas too. Firstly, he held the position of Vice Chairman of the Hindi Academy headed by the Govt. of Delhi since October 2018 till date. However, he had formerly served as Haryana Sahitya Academy's vice president as well. Meanwhile, he sits on the dais of the central board of certification for films.

Sharma's literary works include published books such as "Mansarovar Ke Kauwe," "Buddhimaanon Ki Moorkhtaaein," "Bade-Badon Ke Utpaat," and "Mujhse Bhala Na Koy." These works reflect his keen observation and critique of societal behaviors through satire.

His impact reaches multi-platform media houses. In 1980, he composed a recording titled "Cassette Called Chaar Line Wale Kavi" T-Series. Also in 2004, he anchors the daily "Sharmaji Se Poocho," which aired on 93.5 Red FM, a show that could entertain listeners using comical comments on their everyday problems. There are also appearances of him, such as “Movers and Shekhers,” which aired on Sony TV, together with "India's Laughter Champion," also airing on the same Sony Entertainment Television.

Sharma usually cracks jokes while keeping a straight face. It is one of those techniques where jokes get enhanced with their comedic value. Sharma has performed globally in many places, including countries in the USA, UAE, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Indonesia, and Singapore, spreading his brand of humor to go global.
