These influences have given him an incredible foundation that has led to a very polished technique, a deep understanding of rhythm, and a rich musical expression.

Subir is a kathak dance student who attended a prestigious academy (gharana) called the Lucknow Gharana to learn from his teacher (guru), Santosh Kumar. He has taken many classes with well-known dancers, including Pandit Birju Maharaj and Vidushi Saswati Sen. Because he has studied both tabla and kathak, Subir creates his own dance style that perfectly unites rhythm with motion.

Subir Thakur has performed (mostly) alongside some of the most iconic Indian classical artists, like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, and Pandit V.G. Jog, as well as at festivals throughout India and abroad, representing Indian classical arts.
