Shakir came from a long line of musicians. His father, Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, was a renowned sitar player. Shakir began performing publicly at age eleven and has continued to perform around the world since then. His musical career is the result of many years of dedicated practice and artistic discipline under his father's guidance.

For his extraordinary talent and contribution to Indian classical music, Shakir Khan received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award (An Award Given By the Sangeet Natak Akademi Of India in 2023)—a prestigious national award presented to promising youth artists contributing to the performing arts.

Shakir's rendition is famous for its beautiful melodic expression (sur), subtle rhythmic nuances (laya), and stage presence. Through creating SwarSetu (in honor of his grandfather, Ustad Aziz Khan), he shares his musical skills and experience all over the world to help her connect with and inspire others.
