Nandini was raised within a family that was filled with music from before she was born. At the age of three, her mother (Dr. Sangeeta Shankar) and grandmother (Padma Bhushan Dr. N. Rajam) helped her learn how to play the violin. Her grandmother, Dr. N. Rajam, is the first person to play and develop the gayaki ang (inspired by singing) way of using a violin to mimic sounding like a singer does. As a child, Nandini was surrounded by classical music and has progressed quickly and impressively to become one of today’s most recognized young talents playing Indian classical violin.

At just eight years old, she performed in public for the first time, and at thirteen, she hosted her first solo concert. As a pupil of Bhatkhande, she had demonstrated such a high level of artistry and maturity that it would be hard to believe she was also a child. Since then, Nandini has been entertaining audiences at many of India's most prestigious music festivals and venues (Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav in Pune, Dover Lane in Kolkata, Saptak in Ahmedabad and ITC Sangeet Sammelan in New Delhi). She has also performed on international stages in the USA, UK, Europe, UAE, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

An artist of various types Nandini combines modern and ancient styles of art by merging them with other styles. Through her collaboration with others and exploration into music-related fields, she will help develop new forms of music. Besides performing, Nandini has taught at Whistling Woods International and currently works at the Rajam School of Violin. Nandini received a Master Degree in Music from SNDT University while developing a career in Music.
