About Vidya Lyer
Vidya Iyer is a singer, songwriter, and performer of Indian-American descent, best known for her stage name Vidya Vox. Born on September 26, 1990, in Chennai, India, she grew up in Virginia, USA, blending the influences of her Indian roots with those of her American upbringing into the unique musical stylings that she sings.
Widely known for her creativity, Vidya popularly creates fascinating mashup mixes of Western pop, electronic music, and Indian classical songs. She has millions of subscribers and billions of views to her name, as people all over the world have appreciated this fusion of genres. Her popular covers include mashups like “Closer/Kabira” and "Lean On/Jind Mahi," which all show great versatility because she can very well blend different musical traditions together with ease.
Trained in Carnatic music since childhood, Vidya has the foundation of her Indian classical forms. She has also experimented with many modern modes and performed in various languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. This multilingual repertoire helped her connect with fans across the world.
In 2017, Vidya released her debut EP, “Kuthu Fire," containing original compositions combining Indian folk music with electronic beats. Tracks like "Be Free" and "Tamil Born Killa" showcase her experimental approach and storytelling prowess.
