About Treble Puns Band
Treble Puns, a two-piece instrumental outfit hailing from Bengaluru, has been on an exploratory quest since 2018 to seek truth in relationships and life experiences. Their debut EP, "Sounds Like Treble," is the most poignant realization of the Indian child's formative years by presenting relatable scenarios many would have faced.
Four tracks on this EP discuss topics of relationships, social expectations, and the dynamics of a family. Songs like "No Teacher's Pet" are critical of the obsession with formal education and its commoditization as a pathway to wealth. "Father of the Notion" explores parental expectations, in which a father equates love with the ability to earn and provide. The longest track, "Momologue," addresses the parenting method of shaming children into righteousness and how it has an impact on the psyche of a child. As drummer Sohini Bhattacharya explains, “The EP reflects daily events from childhood, shaped by the voices of parents, teachers, and society. These experiences form the biases we hold, which are often perpetuated in later generations.”
Musically, Treble Puns pays homage to legendary artists while blending Indian classical and progressive rock elements. Their compositions draw inspiration from iconic bands like Tool and Porcupine Tree, showcasing complex rhythms and intricate patterns. At the same time, the melodies are based on Indian ragas while being inspired by the great Indian guitarists Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Baiju Dharamarajan, Sushmit Sen, and Rex Vijayan. This comes across in a sound that is unique enough to strike a delicate balance between technical proficiency and cultural depth.
Beyond the auditory, the EP is meant to present a multisensory experience. Together with its animations and a series of engaging visuals, "Sounds Like Treble" would address a more holistic journey of involvement by visualizing and bringing storytelling to music.
Treble Puns is more than a musical expedition; it mirrors the complexities in life, brought to life and told through rhythmic and melodious lines, challenging the norms along the way for their innovative path.
