About Shweta Subram
Shweta Subram is a Canadian vocalist well known for her skillful singing capabilities in numerous genres such as Bollywood, Hindi, and Punjabi music. Born in Mangalore, India, she was two months old when her family moved to Dubai and subsequently settled in Ottawa, Canada, while she was in her teens. Her multicultural exposure provided a richness of musicality through which she was able to combine classic Indian melodies with modern music.
Shweta's love for music was there from an early age, which prompted her to take part in and win many singing competitions. She was even awarded the North American Best Singer award by the Sangam Kala Group and won a world competition held by the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, for which she was personally guided by Shankar Mahadevan.
Her career has both playback singing and independent music ventures. Shweta debuted in Bollywood with the song "Dil-e-Nadaan" in the movie "Hawaizaada," sharing the stage with Ayushmann Khurrana. She also entered the Tamil film industry with the song "Mella Mella" for the movie "Maayavan," scored by Ghibran. In the independent music industry, Shweta received a lot of attention for her work with The Piano Guys on an Indian version of Swedish House Mafia's "Don't You Worry Child," which demonstrated her capability to blend Eastern and Western musical styles.
One of her most prominent accomplishments is her work on the viral song "Jalebi Baby" in 2020, in which she delivered the hook that captured the attention of listeners all over the world. This project with artist Tesher further solidified her position as a talented and creative artist who can bridge cultural and musical divides.
Shweta's live shows have enthralled audiences all around the world. She has headlined numerous concerts and festivals all over North America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Asia. A major milestone of her career was singing at Carnegie Hall in New York, where she became one of the youngest Indian-origin vocalists to ever perform on that prestigious stage.
Apart from her musical pursuits, Shweta has also established herself in media, with the Drive Home show on HumDesi Radio and acting as a reporter for the television show "Sounds of India" on Rogers Channel 22 in Canada.
