Shaheen Salmani is a renowned Indian singer and co-founder of Delhi-based Sufi rock band Rocknaama. Formed in 2015 with keyboard player Vicky Ani, Rocknaama has emerged as a leading figure in the Indian fusion music scenario, combining traditional Sufi tunes with modern-day rock influences.
Shaheen's musical career made major waves when she attained top positions on Zee TV's "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" in 2016. Her melodious voice and energetic performances on stage have taken Rocknaama to play at the highest festivals of the country, such as the Delhi Food Truck Festival, Meri Dilli Utsav, and Night Owl Festival. The band has also performed at corporate functions for various prestigious groups like ICICI, HDFC, PWC, and VIVO and has also performed overseas in nations like Afghanistan and Dubai.
Apart from her musical success, Shaheen is also reputed for her activism. In the May 2020 lockdown over COVID-19, she came up with an online concert sponsored by the Delhi Youth Welfare Association and raised ?35,000 for migrant workers and daily wage workers. Shaheen used to stress community support amidst trying times as, "I am very happy that now people are supporting us when we need their support the most."
In 2022, Rocknaama won national recognition by making it to the final round of Colors TV's show "Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan." They received a standing ovation from judge Parineeti Chopra with their rendition of "Mora Saiyaan Mose Bole Na." In one such moment, seasoned actor and judge Mithun Chakraborty respected Shaheen by inviting her to take his judge's seat, something that left her "ecstatic and beyond imagination."
