About Pandit Prakash Mishra

Pandit Prakash Mishra is a renowned Hindustani classical singer famous for his rich lineage, impeccable mastery of ragas, and soul-stirring performances. He belongs to the prestigious Banaras Gharana and is a sixth-generation torchbearer of one of India's most revered musical traditions. Born into a family of musicians, he is the son and pupil of the legendary Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, Padma Bhushan awardee, and one of India's greatest classical musicians.

Right from a young age, Pandit Prakash Mishra had rare musical talent. Disciplined intensively by his father, he absorbed not only the technical intricacies of Hindustani classical music but also the expressive range and spiritual depth which characterize Banaras style. His training involved a lot of riyaaz (practice) of khayal, thumri, dadra, chaiti, kajri, and bhajan, all characteristic of his live concerts today.

Pandit Mishra is famous for his rich, melodious tone and the way he harmonizes traditional purity with modern charm. His khayal performances contain an ideal balance of subtle taans, gamaks, and layakari, and his semi-classical compositions have an overwhelming depth of bhava (emotion) that touches the hearts of both the purists and the occasional listeners. His command over Banarasi thumri and his interpretations of devotional pieces make him a special and forceful performer on stage.

He has toured and performed throughout India and abroad, earning the respect and admiration of audiences in the US, UK, Europe, and Southeast Asia over the years.
