Miracle Drugg started her formal career in 2011, as the resident DJ at Girl in The Café, a newly-opened lounge in Chandigarh. Being the first and only performing female DJ in the city was not the only reason Varnika (Miracle Drugg) grabbed attention, and rose to be known as one of Chandigarh’s most prolific DJs in no time at all. Despite very little formal musical training, MD had been honing her skills and ear since she was 13, when her father built her a mixer so she could play “non-stop” music. MD’s skill and talent are evident in her sets, each of which is carefully constructed, to deliver not just a playlist, but an experience.
She plays explosive Bass and progressive/big room sets, that drive the audience to a Miracle Drugg induced frenzy. Although Bass, Progressive house and Deep house top the list of her preferred genres, MD uses just about every genre in her sets. She has been known, on more than one occasion, to play tracks by an electro swing band, Atoms for Peace, Flying Lotus, Thom Yorke, Deadmau5, Gramatik and even Skrillex, all seamlessly fitted together in 1 set. Because of her love for experimentation with underground music, MD has learned how to strike the perfect balance, between what she wants to play and what the people want to hear, without having to compromise on the quality of the set. MD was a resident DJ for 2 years, before she turned freelance and moved to Delhi to pursue an Audio Engineering course from Arjun Vagale’s ILM Academy.
