Minu Bakshi is a multi-talented artist, teacher, and social worker from New Delhi, India. She has worked in several fields, such as music, poetry, language teaching, and social work, demonstrating her commitment to safeguarding culture and community well-being.
She did her schooling at St. Thomas School, Delhi, and then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from Miranda House, Delhi University. Being very fond of languages, she further studied Spanish and achieved a master's and an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. To further hone her skills, she studied at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain.
As a Spanish professor, she has been instrumental in building cultural bridges between India and Spanish-speaking nations. She has also served as an accredited Spanish interpreter for the Indian government. In spite of her scholarly success, music was still a passion for her, and she ventured into Punjabi folk and Urdu ghazal singing.
With ample training in Hindustani classical music, she has come to be known for incorporating her folk traditions with modern sounds. Her Punjabi albums, "Lao Mehndiyan I" and "Lao Mehndiyan II," gained good appreciation, with the first being shortlisted as Best Punjabi Album at the ETC Music Awards. She is also a lyricist and a poet, composing most of her compositions herself. Her involvement in initiatives such as Jashn-e-Rekhta reflects her dedication towards upholding Urdu poetry and music.
Aside from her contribution to art and learning, she is engaged in philanthropy. She is the vice chairperson of Savera, a non-governmental organization committed to empowering disadvantaged women and children. She has employed her musical gift in raising charity for social causes, such as relief for victims of natural disasters.
Minu Bakshi’s journey is a remarkable blend of creativity, education, and humanitarian efforts, making her a significant figure in the fields of art and social service.
