The band's name, Maadal, perfectly reflects its roots. The name is derived from the words "maa," meaning woman, and "dal," meaning group, thus signifying a group of powerful women. It is also named after a traditional percussion instrument that is popular in parts of India and Nepal, which further connects the band's music to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
