The Bilz & Kashif is a musical trio from Canada that rose to fame in the mid-2000s due to their new fusion of Western and South Asian music styles. The trio comprises three members: DJ Vicious (real name: Vishal Urva), Master-D (real name: Subir Dev), and singer Kashif. Their new blend of bhangra, hip-hop, R&B, and pop music captured a multicultural following, catapulting them to international fame.
The band's history started with the partnership between DJ Vicious and Master-D, who originally created The Bilz (a name standing for "Bilingual Zone"). Their goal was to produce music that would fill in cultural differences by mixing classical South Asian music with modern Western beats. With the addition of lead singer Kashif, they provided a varied vocal range to the band, which made them more attractive and created their distinct sound.
In 2006, The Bilz & Kashif produced their first album, "Breaking Barriers," which included their hit single "2 Step Bhangra." The song took off, collecting them accolades and making them the forerunners in the urban desi music industry. The album, with its melodious hooks blended with cross-culture beats, attracted a strong fan base across Canada and internationally.
Their next album, "The Trinity," released in 2010, did the same as they continued to demonstrate their versatility and capacity for merging genres effortlessly. "On the Dancefloor" and "Single" further solidified their place in the music industry, appealing to a wide range of listeners.
Throughout the years, The Bilz & Kashif have earned numerous international accolades for their work in music and have had millions of viewers watch their music videos. They have been instrumental in breaking ground for other musicians in the urban desi genre and have inspired the next generation of artists.
Since recent years, the artists have all worked on individual projects. Kashif still maintains contact with fans via social media platforms, posting updates about his music and individual pursuits. DJ Vicious and Master-D continue to work in the music field on production and solo endeavors. Regardless of their individual endeavors, The Bilz & Kashif's legacy lives on, illustrating their contribution to South Asian and Western music blending.
