About John Oinam

John Oinam is a singer-songwriter and performer from Thanga in Manipur who is on his way to becoming a star in the Indian indie music scene. Based in New Delhi, he blends funk, pop, soul, R&B, and Manipuri folk into a sound that is quite distinct and appealing to audiences.

Growing up queer in a conservative village, there were instances of bullying and social problems for John. Music became his escape and a way to communicate his feelings. His endurance has seen him perform over 650 live shows across India, Malaysia, and Dubai, singing in English, Hindi, and Manipuri.

John became a household name after featuring as a finalist on The Stage Season 2, a reality show for independent artists. In 2019, he also made it to the top 30 in Indian Idol, displaying his singing talent. His NEXA Music Season 2 journey saw him in the top 24, and there he collaborated with the industry's legends like A.R. Rahman. This helped hone his skills and accept his queer identity through music.

John, in addition to being a solo artist, is part of the indie band Blue Meadow, contributing to their geographical diversity in musical style. He has also worked with guitarist Shivam Lohia on the single Her, a song about lost love.

Besides music, he also does work for charity. He has organized fundraiser gigs in Delhi to aid several causes, including aid for his home state, Manipur. His efforts show his commitment not only to the music industry but also to making an impact in society.
