About Hima Das
Hima Das is one of India’s most celebrated track athletes, known for her blistering speed, inspiring rise from a small village in Assam, and historic achievements on the international stage. Born on 9 January 2000 in Kandhulimari village near Dhing, Nagaon, she grew up playing sports and discovered her love for sprinting at a young age—even running barefoot through rice fields before formal training began.
Her breakthrough came in 2018 when she became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the World U20 Championships, triumphing in the women’s 400 m race and instantly putting Indian sprinting on the global map.

That same year at the Asian Games, Hima set the Indian national record in the 400 m with a time of 50.79 seconds and added relay medals to her tally, showcasing her range and competitiveness.
Nicknamed the “Dhing Express” after her hometown, Hima has consistently impressed with her determination, athletic versatility, and positive spirit. Beyond her sporting success, she has served as a role model for young athletes across the country, embodying resilience and ambition. In 2021, she was honored with the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Assam Police, recognizing her contributions both on and off the track.
