Founded and directed by choreographer Basu Sharma, the Dishaa Creative Dance Group is a leading contemporary dance company based in Delhi, India. It was established in 2006 and has since earned acclaim for various innovative approaches to choreography, drawing from traditional Indian forms and infusing them with modern and experimental styles.
The troupe is well known for its theme-based performances that look at cultural, spiritual, and social themes. Well-known productions include "Still I Rise (Aparajita)," which deals with a narrative of resilience and empowerment, and "Babasaheb-The Grand Musical," which pays homage to the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. In these works, storytelling through movement is embraced by the troupe via the simultaneous use of classical and contemporary dance techniques.
The group has also represented India on international stages, including in Qatar in conjunction with the India-Qatar Year of Culture. The performance in Doha was a fusion of various Indian dance styles, a fitting manifestation of the group's versatility and commitment to promoting India's rich cultural heritage; it included Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Bhangra, and Chhau.
