Chaar Hazaari is a contemporary folk-rock band from Delhi, born out of the spirit of friendship, music, and spontaneity. The five engineering students formed the band in 2012 during their college days. They performed at a freshmen party and spent hours rehearsing and practicing, realizing only later that they had never thought of a name. This was yet another moment of lightheartedness when one of the members of the band threw out a rather sarcastic comment, "Chaar Hazaari"—that" is, "4000 bucks" in Hindi—because they had spent that much to hire the drum kit. The name was destined to stick, and with that, Chaar Hazaari began.
The sound of the music of this band is set in Hindi and involves folk and rock, which reaches out to many people. Their rhythm is a flawless blend of meaningless lyrics with catchy melodies that introduce new aspects of contemporary music while acting as true imitations of the Indian melodious voice, for the rhythm born from their acquaintance with rock legends, folk traditions, and modern indie sounds makes Chaar Hazaari feel fresh and refreshing both in alive and heedful moments.
