Rainburn was founded in the fall of 2011 by classically-trained pianist Avik Chakravarty and singer/guitar player Vats Iyengar as a vehicle for eclectic, progressive music. Adding drummer Praveen Kumar from Blood & Iron and bassist Jayaram Kasi soon after, the band rehearsed for the rest of the year before starting to gig in early 2012. Rainburn’s brand of technical-yet-accessible music found immediate takers in the Bangalore music scene, leading to gigs throughout the southern Indian circuit. In the middle of 2012, Jayaram Kasi left, and after a protracted search, was replaced by Shishir Gupta on the bass; meanwhile, the band recorded two demo songs: ‘End of Sleep’ and ‘Listen Through the Noise’. But already, Rainburn’s musical leanings were changing. Rainburn is a progressive rock group based in Bangalore, India. Founded in the fall of 2011, the band has performed in several cities across the country and received acclaim for the originality and emotional intensity of its music. Rainburn’s music fuses unusual meters and adventurous song structures with subtle influences from its Indian heritage in a distinctly song-oriented fashion. The band's debut EP, Canvas of Silence, was picked by Classic Rock Magazine as one of the Top 5 Prog Albums of 2015. Rainburn's full-length debut, Insignify, was released in November 2018 and has garnered significant critical acclaim in India as well as overseas, particularly in Europe and the UK.
