About Kumar Sanu

Kumar Sanu, who was born as Kedarnath Bhattacharya on October 20, 1957, in Kolkata, is India's most iconic playback singer. With his smooth voice and innate talent for expressing profound emotions with ease, he ruled the world of Bollywood music during the 1990s and came to be called the "King of Melody."

Sanu's musical career started under the guidance of his father, Pashupati Bhattacharya, a classical singer. Once he shifted to Mumbai, his big break came when he was discovered by music director Jagjit Singh. But it was his association with composer duo Nadeem-Shravan in the 1990 film Aashiqui that made him a household name. Tracks such as "Ab Tere Bin" and "Dheere Dheere" became overnight hits, catapulting Sanu to national fame.

He sang many a chartbuster afterwards, such as "Tujhe Dekha To" (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), "Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai" (Saajan), and "Chura Ke Dil Mera" (Main Khiladi Tu Anari). His emotive voice, complemented by romantic lyrics and hummable tunes, established him as the voice of romance of an entire generation.

Kumar Sanu is the Guinness World Record holder for singing the most songs in one day — an incredible 28 songs! He also received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for five years in a row (1991–1995), a feat that testifies to his incredible talent and popularity.

Despite his superstardom, Sanu remains humble and avid about music. He continues to sing worldwide, entrancing the crowds with evergreen numbers as well as current releases. His ageless voice, loaded with warmth and earnestness, will continue to play a major role in creating timeless melodies for many generations.
