About Ash Daniel

Daniel Ash was born on July 31, 1957, in Northampton, England. He is a musician and songwriter who made his mark in gothic rock and alternative music. He was initially recognized as the guitarist for Bauhaus, a trailblazing band whose 1979 debut single, Bela Lugosi's Dead, is a landmark song in the gothic rock genre.

After Bauhaus dissolved in 1983, Ash co-founded Tones on Tail, which was an influential but short-lived project that featured eclectic and experimental music. The band's song Go! proved to be a hit single and showcased Ash's talent for merging post-punk, electronic, and new wave sounds.

He, along with ex-Bauhaus members David J. and Kevin Haskins, created Love and Rockets in 1985. The group became mainstream with the 1989 Top Ten hit So Alive in the US.

Ash's work as a solo artist also highlighted his versatility. His first solo album Coming Down (1990) ventured into brooding, atmospheric textures, whereas Foolish Thing Desire (1992) ushered in a more refined, pop-inflected approach. During his career, he has gained acclaim for his experimental guitar playing, frequently playing an EBow to produce otherworldly, textured soundscapes.

In 2017, Ash reunited with Kevin Haskins and Haskins’s daughter, Diva Dompé, to form POPTONE, revisiting his past works in live performances. The following year, Love and Rockets reunited for a special performance at Coachella, reintroducing their music to a new generation of fans. With a career that has spanned decades, Ash remains a force to be reckoned with in alternative music. His experimental nature and boundary-pushing attitude have left an indelible stamp on the genre, influencing countless musicians in the process.
