About Amit Bhatt

Amit Bhatt is a veteran Indian television actor, best recognized as Champaklal Jayantilal Gada, or lovingly referred to as "Bapuji," in the phenomenally popular Hindi sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Born on August 19, 1972, in Gujarat's Saurashtra region, Amit found his calling in acting at an early age, even taking part in theater productions in his school and college days. He finished his Bachelor of Commerce degree before devoting himself completely to an acting career.

Amit’s early television work included appearances in shows such as CID, Khichdi, Yes Boss, Chupke Chupke, FunnyFamily.com, Gupshup Coffee Shop, and F.I.R. However, it was his portrayal of Bapuji from 2008 onwards that truly made him a household name. Interestingly, despite playing the father of Jethalal (played by Dilip Joshi) on the show, Amit Bhatt is actually younger than his on-screen son in real life.

Apart from television, Amit has also appeared in cameo roles in Bollywood movies such as Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge (2009) and Loveyatri (2018), where his twin sons Dev and Deep also made an appearance. His work in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has earned him numerous awards, including ensemble awards and nominations for Best Actor in a Comic Role.

Off-screen, Amit lives a quiet and contented life with his wife, Kruti Bhatt, a dietician and nutritionist, and their twin sons. The family lives in Mumbai. Amit loves to sing, travel, and spend time with his family. Though he is extremely famous, he likes to live a humble and private life.
